Dr. David Frawley, a reknown Ayurvedic Doctor and scholar
has said about Durgadas:
"Durgadas (Rodney Lingham) is one of the most important traditional scholars and teachers of both Veda and Tantra working in the world today, with his field of insight extending to Ayurveda and Jyotish.
Though still quite young (around thirty), he has a deep understanding of the esoteric doctrines, mantras and yoga practices that is extremely rare today even in senior teachers in India today.
Along with this he has the ability to express the teachings in extensive writings that cover all the main aspects of Vedic and Yogic concern.
~Our aim is to promote the full, original and traditional systems of Yoga and Ayurveda, as in the traditional philosophies and systems of India, not turn them into limited "pop-culture" systems as they have become in the West.~
Durgadas (Rodney) Lingham is an Ayurvedic Astrologer, Yoga and Ayurveda Teacher, Ayurvedic Lifestyle Consultant, Ayurvedic Massage and Panchakarma Therapist as well as being Certified in Ayurvedic Pharmacy, Ayurvedic Massage and Beauty Therapies and also Clinical Ayurveda according to the Ashtavaidya Tradition of Kerala.
As a Certified Yoga and Ayurveda Teacher, Durgadas is certified with 1200 hours by Dr. David Frawley, one of the world's leading authorities on Ayurvedic Yoga, with special training and study in the area of Ayurvedic Yoga & Vedic Yoga.
Having been brought up following Traditional Hinduism, he has lived an Ayurvedic and Yogic lifestyle all of his life. He has a background also in Sales, Marketing, Transport and Real Estate, as well as Yoga, Astrology and Ayurveda.
He has also been awarded the title of "Veda Kovid" by Pandit Vamadeva Shastri, as a Vedic Teacher.
He has studied Ayurveda and related sciences with the American Institute of Vedic Studies with Dr. David Frawley, and also in India, attending classes with world-renown Dr. Sunil Joshi in Nagpur and also training at Greens Ayurvedic Hospital in Southern India, receiving hands-on Clinical training in Ayurveda in a real working Ayurvedic Hospital.
He is Certified in all aspects of Ayurveda, including Ayurvedic Psychology (as a Yoga and Ayurveda Teacher and Ayurvedic Astrologer); Ayurvedic Lifestyle Counselling; Clinical Ayurveda; Ayurvedic Pharmacy and Panchakarma, Massage and Beauty Therapies.
He has special training not only in Kerala-style Panchakarma, the original Panchakarma therapies but also how to recommend them relative to diseases and also specific dravyas (Ayurvedic formulas) used with them, specific to the Kerala Ayurveda (Ashtavaidya) tradition. The Kerala's Ashtavaidya tradition has a more vast and specific ay of treating diseases through many local variations and medicines, not commonly found in others areas of India.
However, Durgadas has a deeper passion for the southern Keraliya Ayurveda, with it's more traditional Vedic approach interwoven in local traditions as Martial Arts dating back to Vedic times. It is this Keraliya system however he promotes.
As such, he brings a wealth of knowledge to New Zealand and the world, as also with his knowledge of Yoga, Tantra and Vedanta, coming also from an ancient Hindu lineage, stemming from Rajasthan in North-Western India on his maternal side and from a Tamil (south-eastern Indian) ancestory on his father's side.
The name "Lingham" itself means in the Sanskrit language a symbol of sign, and is the sacred emblem of the god Shiva, the Yogi-Deity and Divine Mystic in Hinduism.
Durgadas was brought up in the Arya Samaj spiritual tradition in India which emphasises the ancient Vedic texts (Four Vedas, Rg, Saama, Atharv and Yajur) and also continues his maternal side which worshipped the Goddess (shakti) in the form of Gayatri-Saraswati, Mother of Vedas, Goddess of Wisdom and Music.
His Grandfather also studied Sanskrit in Dehradun in Northern India and his Mother (late Shobha Devi Lingham, nee Singh-Verma) was a great Sadhak (spiritual aspirant) of the Gayatri mantra sadhana or practise of Gayatri mantra and also had a passion for herbal remedies, having an Ayurvedic root. She also witnessed in her early years the power of Jyotish in her local village, healing her from a long-suffering illness, Asthma.
